A Successful Combination of Philanthropy and Entertainment for the 33rd Annual Gold Plate Dinner in Ottawa, Co-Chaired by Aik Aliferis and Nick Pantieras

Stemming from the writings of the Ancient Greek author and philosopher Plutarch, philanthropy: ‘the love of humanity,’ is a concept that has evolved for over two thousand years, manifesting as private initiatives for the public good. At Primecorp Commercial Realty, we know that social responsibility goes hand-in-hand with sustainable business success over the long haul. This notion is repeatedly exhibited by the charitable efforts of our various team members throughout the year, and was recently demonstrated in a big way by two of our founding partners... who also know how to have a good time for a good cause!

On June 14th, 2018, the highly anticipated 33rd annual Gold Plate Dinner for charity took place at the Hellenic Meeting and Reception Centre in Ottawa. For the second year in a row, Primecorp Partners Aik Aliferis and Nick Pantieras co-chaired this signature social event, which had been steadily chaired for the previous 30 years by Steve Ramphos, President of District Realty. Over the past three decades, this prolific gala has raised more than $2 million for various charities. This year’s rendition was in support of the Ottawa Heart Institute and the Hellenic Community of Ottawa.

The sold-out benefit attracted the who’s who of the Ottawa real estate development industry. “It was a rare opportunity to get everyone together in the same room in a social setting,” says Nick Pantieras as he reflects on the success of this year’s gala. Nick conveys his and Aik’s appreciation for the support of the real estate and business community, noting that the biggest commercial real estate developers in Ottawa were in attendance, along with notable representation from the legal, accounting and property management communities.

Tremendous Excitement and Energy for 2018 Gold Plate Dinner

This year’s edition of the Gold Plate Dinner was a dynamic and energetic evening, strengthening business and professional ties around the common thread of fundraising for very worthy causes. Guests were treated to a fabulous five-course gourmet meal and unlimited fine wine, as excitement mounted throughout the evening in anticipation of the famous ‘double elimination draw.’

Nick recounts how there was “tremendous excitement and energy during the live auction,” for the NASCAR package, donated by Bill Syrros of Lixar. Primecorp’s own Candice Lerner-Fry, Retail Leasing Team Lead, was the highest bidder for this fabulous prize. Candice will be able to send 10 of her clients to Las Vegas for a unique and close-up NASCAR experience, which will include time in the Pits and a ride along in the pace car!

The always exciting ‘grand prize reverse-elimination draw’ pulled 20 ticket-holders up on stage, where the group had to unanimously choose between splitting the money or risk having one of their names pulled from the lottery. Amidst boisterous chants from the crowd of “don’t split,” the grand-prize package, which included the choice of $30,000 or a brand-new Mercedes Benz, generously donated by Star Motors of Ottawa, was eventually won by well-known commercial real estate appraiser John Comba of Juteau Johnson Comba Inc.

The fun continued over to the networking lounge and after-party, held in a spacious air conditioned tent (a new addition for this years’ edition of the Gold Plate Dinner) for a complete evening of entertainment, connecting with friends and business associates.

Nick Pantieras Participates in Trade Mission with U.S.

In addition to all his work as Co-Chair of this years' Gold Plate Dinner, Nick Pantieras was also busy networking at the highest levels of international business efforts in North America. At a critical time in trade relations between Canada and the U.S., Nick was invited to participate in a U.S. Department of Commerce Certified Trade Mission in Toronto on June 28, 2018. The meeting brought together a dozen leading alternative asset managers from the U.S. to connect with Canadian institutional investors and some of the best business minds in Canada.

“The whole premise was to talk about mutual investment opportunities,” said Nick, whose credentials include an Executive MBA from Queen’s University and certificates in Real Estate Capital Markets and Management from Harvard Business School, not to mention being in on some of the biggest commercial real estate deals in Canada over his 25 plus years in the industry.

At Primecorp, the members of our high-calibre team strive to make a difference through commercial real estate transactions that pay off and make sense. We do this by cultivating effective working relationships with a variety of industry partners, in an assortment of settings, to serve the real estate and investment needs of our valued clients… and we don’t mind having a bit of fun along the way, especially when it’s for a good cause.
