At Primecorp, Social Responsibility Can be Found in a ShoeBox for Women over The Holidays

As offices across the National Capital Region shut down this afternoon for the Holidays, many of us are finishing some last-minute work items, or bits of final shopping and looking forward to great food, special gifts exchanged among the ones we love, a feast of home cooked meals and quality time to relax with our family and friends.

This is true for us at Primecorp Commercial Realty, in our downtown Ottawa headquarters, and we feel fortunate to work with amazing clients and our caring, dedicated team members. Our professional staff strives all year to make a real difference in the business world through selling and leasing commercial real estate, which we can all take a great deal of pride in across our entire team.

Many of us are also equally dedicated to making a difference in our communities, honouring our commitment to corporate social responsibility in practical, hands on ways, for the communities in which we live and work.

Christine Ellsworth is Our Worker Bee!

Christine Ellsworth is our worker bee. She is arguably the most productive member of our team. As a highly dedicated Administration Assistant, Christine maintains a daily connection to all the groups and all the tasks that make our office hum! This holiday season, Christine initiated a wonderful charitable effort for us all to contribute to. It's called: "The Shoebox Project."

The Shoebox Project for Shelters

The Shoebox Project for Shelters collects and distributes gifts in the form of Shoeboxes to women who are homeless or at-risk of homelessness in communities across Canada and the US. For women who have been displaced from their homes and estranged from their families, the holidays can be a particularly challenging time. While many of us are celebrating the Holiday Season with family and close friends, for countless individuals on the margins of our society, this can be a very difficult time of year. Reducing the feelings of isolation and loneliness faced by women living in shelters, or on the streets, is one of the most important outcomes of The Shoebox Project.

Each Shoebox is filled with items valued at $50, that any woman will likely enjoy, but may not splurge on for herself in challenging times. We all love a little pampering, a surprise special gift, or an experience that provides a glowing sense of goodwill towards the men and women in our communities… letting them know we are thinking of them. A Shoebox gift is a powerful reminder for a woman that she has not been forgotten, and that she remains a valued and respected member of our community.

Evidence of this powerful notion can be found in the growth rate of The Shoebox Project, since its inception just a few years ago in Toronto:

In our founding year, 2011, we delivered 400 Shoeboxes to residents of four Toronto women's shelters. Through word of mouth and the support of some loyal sponsors, the initiative grew very quickly. Four short years later, in 2015, our network of dedicated volunteers delivered almost 25,000 gifts to women in 135 communities. -

Thank You Christine!

Christine, thank you for all that you do for us all year round and for motivating Primecorp staff to participate in this important and meaningful project, which resulted in a dozen ShoeBox Gifts donated to a very worthy cause!
